China Mobile:
Building Hohhot and Harbin Level-1 Private Cloud Resource Pools
Largest OpenStack Private Cloud Data Center
China Mobile has conducted lots of in-depth research on cloud computing technologies and applications since 2008, and explicitly regards cloud computing as one of the important enterprise development strategies. China Mobile's leaders have proposed the philosophy many times in company meetings that China Mobile should attach great importance to the application of cloud computing, promote the centralized evolution of conventional IT systems into cloud computing platforms, and lay equal stress to service centralization and cloud computing.
According to the cloud computing system classification by China Mobile, private clouds mainly provide infrastructure cloud services for the internal IT system of the company and cover the service platform, IT support system, and other internal systems. China Mobile headquarters has successively built three resource pools in South Base, International Information Port, and Changsha, serving tens of thousands of users. Each node is networked using the SDN software solution to provide flexibility and diversification.
In 2018, the IT company of China Mobile led the pack in the construction of two private cloud resource pools in Hohhot and Harbin. The SDN technology is used to build an automated, large-scale, and intelligent network and the SDN DCI technology is employed to implement inter-node traffic access and disaster recovery of resource pools.
China Mobile's Hohhot and Harbin level-1 private cloud resource pool project is managed in a unified manner based on OpenStack and self-developed BC-OP platform. It is the largest OpenStack private cloud data center built by operators in China. The software SDN solution, hardware SDN solution, and SDN hybrid solution are deployed inside resource pools to meet service requirements. SDN solutions of different vendors are deployed in different PODs in a single resource pool, and PODs in a resource pool are connected by the unified cloud management platform to implement the inter-POD interconnection of SDNs built by different vendors in the resource pool. In this way, an oversized resource pool using SDNs of different vendors is built.
After three phases of construction, more than 20 PODs are built in the Hohhot and Harbin resource pool nodes, with 40,000 servers in a single resource pool. Ruijie participates in the construction in Subphase I of Phase II, Subphase II of Phase II, and Phase III of China Mobile's Hohhot and Harbin level-1 private cloud resource pool project. Ruijie undertakes to construct one POD in Hohhot resource pool, six PODs in Harbin resource pool, and provides 38 RG-N18018-X core switches, 676 RG-S6220 TOR switches, 7 SDN clusters, and over 2,400 RG-S5750 management network switches for the project. Ruijie participates in the overall network solution consisting of data center switches, security firewalls, load balancing, and SDN controllers. As the major participant of the Hohhot and Harbin level-1 private cloud resource pool project, Ruijie works with China Mobile's IT company and cloud management platform of China Mobile's Suzhou R&D Center to customize development solutions and finally implements the OpenStack large-scale networking and inter-regional resource pool interworking by using the SDN DCI technology, thereby providing a basic network environment for large-scale flexible deployment and rapid allocation of resources.
·The solution based on the OpenStack architecture is implemented completely.
·The POD solution using the Fabric architecture is adopted.
·China Mobile's Hohhot and Harbin level-1 private cloud resource pool project achieves the interworking of cross-POD devices from different vendors.
·Automatic service deployment and standard O&M management are realized.
